Join us for a hands-on, drop-in quilting event as part of Pride & Joy—a collaborative art project celebrating Queer joy, vitality, and community through the medium of art quilts.
Artist Susan Smereka invites participants to contribute to her original quilt design by painting, drawing, and altering fabric materials that will become part of a larger finished piece. Through simple, accessible techniques, community members will help build layers of color, texture, and meaning—each contribution adding to a collective expression of care and creativity.
This all-ages workshop is free and open to everyone. Stop by anytime, stay as long as you like, and take part in a shared creative process that centers connection and collaboration. No prior experience is needed—just curiosity and a willingness to explore.
Pride & Joy brings together local artists and communities across Northern and Central Vermont to create a series of quilts that will be exhibited in September, with a culminating fundraiser supporting Outright Vermont.

Susan Smereka is a multidisciplinary artist who challenges traditional approaches to working within a single medium. Her practice spans painting, printmaking, sewing, collage, video, installation, and book arts, using varied techniques to explore the relationship between chaos and intuition, and to find clarity, harmony, and connection through uncertainty and coincidence.
For over 40 years, her process has embraced cycles of disorganization and coherence—an ongoing and generative exploration. Smereka has exhibited regionally for more than 25 years, with shows including mixed media works at Art on the Kent, monotypes and paintings at AVA Gallery, installations at the Flynndog, and prints and drawings at Burlington City Arts.
She has participated in residencies at the Helene Wurlitzer Foundation (NM), Vermont Studio Center, and New City Galerie, and has received multiple grants from the Vermont Arts Council and the Kittredge Foundation to support her work in printmaking, video, and letterpress.
