CLAY STUDIO

Monthly Members & Patrons

For intermediate and advanced independent studio users.

About The Studio: Our tiny studio has two hand-building tables and four Shimpo wheels for throwing. We have a variety of communal tools and keep a wishlist for users to suggest new supplies for the studio. Clay studio users are provided a seasonal key code so they may access the studio 24/7.

About Access: All new Clay studio users must receive a tour and introduction to the studio from River Arts staff. Clay studio users should be of intermediate or advanced level and demonstrate an ability to work independently and follow cleanup procedures. Individuals who have completed a 6-week Intro-to-Throwing with River Arts staff will be counted as “intermediate” since they have been trained on the rules and procedures in our clay studio. Individuals who have completed a 101 Intro-to-Throwing course elsewhere will not be immediately considered “intermediate” and will need to demonstrate their ability to work without support in a shared studio space.

About Clay & Firing: River Arts currently sells Laguna 65 - White and Laguna 90 - Brown. Clay studio members are welcome to manage their own reclaim, however, we do not have space for patron users to store personal reclaim buckets. We provide nine stock glazes. Outside glazes are considered on a case-by-case basis. On average, we will typically fire twice per week - once for bisque, once for fire. Only work made by active RA members, patrons, and students is eligible for firing. All outside clay must receive approval from the studio tech. For further information on firing schedule and details, please feel free to contact our Clay & Kiln Tech: pottery@riverartsvt.org

Clay Classes & Events

River Arts allowed me to reconnect with a passion that I had placed aside while raising two boys… The people that I met in class were supportive both personally and artistically. River Arts brought me back to something I truly love!
— Clay Student

All outside clay must receive written approval from the studio tech.
