Begins Wednesday, February 4th
6:00-8:00PM
Ages 21+
Continues every other week.
No art experience necessary!
Meaningful wellness conversations around the art process will be invited but there won't be critiques!
Oh! Also this is FREE!
This program is to create an inclusive, affirming, and creative space that promotes connection, belonging, and wellness through art and reflection. While rooted in mental wellness principles, the group would not be a therapy space—it would function as an open, supportive environment where participants can engage in themed art-making, journaling, and discussion together.
Structure: Welcome/check-in, open studio or themed art activity, optional reflection/discussion, and closing/resource sharing
Themes: Examples include Finding Home, Authentic Expression, and Queer Joy
Participants: LGBTQIA+ community members and allies of all backgrounds (18+)
✨ This open studio is a collaboration between River Arts and SafeArt.
About SafeArt:
SafeArt is a queer-led, community based nonprofit that focuses on providing healing arts programming to marginalized folks and those living in poverty. Since SafeArt’s founding in 2001, we have continued to grow, learn, and shift based on the needs of our communities. While we remain flexible to meet the needs of our participants as new crises emerge, our mission has remained the same - to engage creativity and the expressive arts as tools to support mental health and overall well-being.
About Jasper: Hello! I am a graduate student and SafeArt intern working on a degree in counseling with a concentration in art therapy. Before Grad school, I received a bachelor's degree in visual arts and cultural advocacy. I grew up drawing, writing, reading, and pursuing other creative ventures, using them to relate to others and the world around me. And so, Arts has always been a theme in my life. I hope to use this opportunity to help others do the same, connecting to mental wellness with visual arts.
