Barn quilts have a rich history and can be traced back to revolutionary war. Join local artist and teacher Kristin Murphy to create your very own barn quilt while exploring the historic roots. Each student will be provided with a 2’x2’ board, select a quilt pattern and explore color theory. Participants will walk away with a unique quilt that can will brighten any outdoor space!
Kristen Murphy is an artist and educator with more than ten years of experience bringing vibrant, large-scale folk art to Vermont communities. As the Art Coordinator and a teacher at Laraway Youth & Family Services for the past 25 years, in Johnson, VT, Kristen blends creativity, craftsmanship, and community connection in everything she does.
Over the past decade, she has created and taught barn quilt art across the state, leading numerous community-based projects in both Glover, where she lives, and Johnson, where she works. Kristen is known for her warm, encouraging teaching style and her ability to guide students of all ages and skill levels through the full barn quilt process—from design and color selection to taping, layout, and painting.
Passionate about rural arts and community building, Kristen believes that barn quilts tell stories, beautify shared spaces, and give people a hands-on way to express their creativity. Her classes offer a welcoming atmosphere where participants can learn, explore, and take home a piece of art that reflects their own style.
