With holiday letter writing on the horizon, many adults want to embrace the season with more than just a blocky printed envelope. In this class, Chris Carfaro, a professional calligrapher, helps the average person improve their basic writing techniques with simple (and not so simple) ways to improve their handwriting and how to decorate the envelope, leading to an expressive surprise in the mailbox of a friend or family member.

Christopher Carfaro is a professional artist and penman, living in Richmond, Vermont. U.S.A. Chris does commission work for individuals year round in addition to assisting the Vermont Statehouse during the Valentine Day fundraising event by inscribing hundreds of personal valentines. Chris has taught kids and adults alike in art, penmanship, Lettering Arts, model trains, plastic model kit building and in the martial art of Aikido. Chris has been practicing calligraphy and artwork for over fifty years and most recently, has been studying copperplate with Master Penman, John DeCollibus of Boston, overall composition and penmanship with former White House calligrapher, Rich Paulus of Massachusetts and decorated letters and borders of 16th c Renaissance with Sophia Klesen of Paris, France. Chris has a desire to share the beauty, joy and power of penmanship. He says, “There will always be a place for the efficiency of emails and texts. But when you have something important to say, it is the hand written word that can breathe passion and life into the expression you wish to share.”
