Morning: Playful Paper-Making
We’ll spend the morning creating expressive papers with brush play, mark-making, and monoprinting. You’ll build a collection of unique pages, then choose and prepare them for your journal. You’re welcome to bring your own paper collections—postcards, sheet music, book pages, magazine clippings, watercolor paper, or even paper bags—to mix in with what we make.
Afternoon: Journal-Making & Activation
In the afternoon, we’ll bind your papers into journals and begin exploring ways to bring them to life. Through prompts and techniques, you’ll discover how to activate your pages with artwork, writing, collage, and personal treasures. By day’s end, you’ll have a handmade journal and inspiration to continue your creative journey.
Peggy Smith and Jen Volansky are excited to be teaching this workshop together, and look forward to sharing a day of creativity with you
Peggy Smith (she/her) began her art career as a fiber artist while teaching three-dimensional design at Haverhill High school. Upon moving to Vermont in the 60’s, she continued her art while pursuing a real estate career and raising children. Throughout this period, she developed her own photographs, and incorporated them in collages, silk screens and fabric. Once the digital camera and Adobe became available Peggy found a new way of expressing herself through photographs.
Peggy’s life is full of color and energy which she expresses in her art. Although there are times she takes on more serious subjects, she enjoys the whimsy that happens spontaneously.
For over 25 years, Jen Volansky has felt privileged to be an art educator, guiding students of all ages on their creative journeys. Recently, she stepped out of the traditional school classroom to explore new avenues to support others on their path to well-being.
She is a certified Life and Health Coach who integrates creative practices into her coaching. She understands the arts play an integral role in fostering holistic wellness and knows the creative process is where the magic happens. As an art educator, artist, and coach, Jen believes in shaping experiences where art becomes a bridge to authenticity, and the process takes center stage. Working alongside fellow artists and students brings Jen joy and inspires her. In her free time, she can be found playing in Vermont's landscape, biking, skiing, and swimming.
